Our trip to Ladakh was incredible. I had never been to that
part of India and the stark beauty of the mountains was awesome. Leh was
a sweet little town with a lot of cheerful and friendly people but somewhat
similar to other hill stations.
We left Leh for the next part of the trip to Ney near Basgo, about 40 kms
from Leh. On the way we stopped at Likir Monastery. Ney was a very pleasant
surprise. Hidden in a valley, among fields and a bubbling stream, we came
to the Ney Thagchokling Retreat Centre. The rooms were clean and simply furnished
and the food was wholesome vegetarian Indian and Ladakhi cuisine. I learned
to make “momos” too and taught the cook my way of making carrot
halwa.
It was so quiet and relaxing with no telephones ringing, no internet connection
and no television. I was able to go for lovely walkds and commune with nature.
My soul rejoiced away from the madding crowd and I was ready to face the
world again.
If you ever have an opportunity to visit the centre, it will change your
life!
