Dorje Namgjal knows the retreat right from the time when the foundation stone was laid. It was built and furnished under his supervision. Now he is the manager and your partner for your stay in Ladakh. He speaks English and knows some German. Journeys to Europe have opened his eyes for the expectations of his guests. Raftan is from Ney village and known for his creative cooking. Besides this he cares for the garden and solves smaller technical problems. Watch him when he carefully selects vegetables and herbs for today’s meal. You will love his variety of vegetarian meals. Unusal sweet dishes are a surprise for his guests, ask Raftan for his green cake!

Ama-la is the mother of the house, always smiling she cares for the needs of the guests, cleans the bathrooms and prepares rooms for new guests. She is the one responsible for traditional Ladakhi dishes like momos (stuffed noodles), Tukpa (a kind of stew) or the Ladakhi “donkey’s ear soup” – don’t worry, it is vegetarian! Ama-la prepares the Thermos bottles with complementary teas: delicious milk tea with spices and sugar, warming ginger tea and cooling mint tea with fresh mint from the riverside.
Tsering is Ama-la’s helper and loves to teach guests a few words of Ladakhi.

Geshe Lobsang is a monk from Likir monastery, his abbot appoints him for the summer season to Thagchokling. His English is good and he is very openminded. You can ask him all sorts of questions about Buddhism, join him for the daily pujas (prayers), meditate under his guidance or go for a walk with him and talk about what troubles your mind and soul.

Dawa Tsering comes from Dha Hanu, a valley with indo-aryan population. He was the first from this valley to attend the school of the Tibetan SOS Children’s village near Leh. Everybody knows him in Ladakh and thus he can solve all problems. He and Dorje are partners and owners of Vajra Voyages at Leh since almost 20 years. Dawa and his experienced staff can be relied on for airport-pickup, hotel or guesthouse arrangements at Leh, jeep excursions, hikes and trekking tours.
